Discover the Retezat Mountains on a 4-day hike with your friends. The Retezat Mountains host the most glacial lakes in Romania, 82 to be exact. Some of the most famous lakes are Zanoaga, Bucura, Taul Agatat.
Start the ascent to the Peleaga Peak, at 2,509 m, Papusa Peak 2,508 m and Retezat Peak. On the way you will learn the legend of the mountain. On the way you will be fascinated by the spectacular landscapes, the beautiful mountain flora and the lakes sprinkled all over the mountain.
The route is accessible and without technical difficulty. If you love discovering nature, you must experience this experience, which will delight your soul!
Route:
Day 1: Arrival in Retezat Park - Pietrele Hut
Transport by car Petrosani - Hateg - Deva - Hateg - Ohaba de sub Piatra - Cârnic.
From Carnic you will start the ascent to Cabana Pietrele 1.480 m, entering the Retezat National Park (about 1,5 hours). Accommodation at Cabana Pietrele.
Day 2: Vf Retezat 2.482 m
In the morning you will start on the route Cabana Pietrele - Muchia Lolaia - Vf Retezat 2.482m - Vf Bucura I - Saua Bucaura - Saua Stanisoarei - Valea Stanisoara - return to Cabana Pietrele (7 - 8 hours).
Optional option day 2: In the morning you will go to Pietrele Valley - Curmatura Bucurei 2.206m - Vf Bucura II 2.372m - Vf Bucura I 2. 334 m - Poarta Bucurei, descent into the Bucurei warmth - Taul Portii 2260 m the highest lake in the Carpathian Mountains - the salt lake chain Taul Agatat, Florica, Viorica, Ana, Lia, Bucura the largest glacial lake in the Carpathian Mountains 9 ha - Pietrele Valley - return to Pietrele Hut (8 - 12 hours).
Day 3: Vf Peleaga 2.509 m
As soon as the sun rises you will leave on the route Pietrele Valley - Curmatura Bucurei - Vf Peleaga 2.509 m, the highest in the Retezat Massif - Saua Pelegii - Vf Papusa 2.508m/Portile inchise/Valea Galesului/Cabana Pietrele (10 - 12 hours)
* depending on the weather conditions and your and your friends' preparation, from Vf Peleaga you can approach the descent via Rea Valley (7 - 9 hours)
Day 4: Taul entre Brazi and Return home
In the morning, in the cool of the day, you will leave on another wonderful route: Cabana Pietrele - Valea Galesului - Taul dintre brazi - Cabana Pietrele (3 - 4 hours).
You will pick up your luggage and return to Cârnic around 12 o'clock.
Car transport to Deva, return to Petrosani.
Equipment:
It is necessary to be properly equipped for this type of tour, so you will need to carry:
- waterproof jacket
- rain coat
- long and short mountain trousers
- fleece jacket
- boots
- 60 l waterproof rucksack or waterproof rucksack cover
- multi-purpose knife
- thermos or other water container
- food for the trail
- bandana/sun hat
- sunglasses/sunscreen
- personal medication
