Enjoy the historic landscape of Transylvania, with endless hills, adorned with wildflower meadows, forests and small villages against the backdrop of the Carpathian mountain range. This could be heaven for lovers of nature, traditions and horses. You'll stay in Count Kalnoky's castle at Miklósvar or in the private residence of King Charles III.
A weekend spent here feels like being part of a Tolstoy novel after visiting friends in the country.
Most houses date from the 1800s, although some are much older, as the presence of medieval battlements indicates. The buildings have been carefully restored to preserve their original Transylvanian charm and character. The guest houses are set in spacious gardens, some with storks nesting on nearby rooftops.
The houses are beautifully furnished with antiques in Szekler and Transylvanian Saxon style. The original heating system of wood stoves has been replaced by central heating. The bathrooms are well equipped and tastefully decorated. A sauna and billiard room are also available in the lower houses. Children are welcome, and the guest houses are suitable for all ages.
The rooms are furnished exclusively with antique Transylvanian furniture, including most textiles. All rooms have double/twin beds with woollen beds and duvets. To create an atmosphere of peace and quiet, the rooms have no TV or radio; instead, you will find plenty of interesting books on the shelves. Each room has an electric kettle, with tea provided. The Hussars' room, reflects the Kalnoky family's long tradition of equestrian culture and military riding. Take a look at the Hussars' Room and the recently renovated Shepherds' Room.
The bathrooms meet Western standards of comfort (with hairdryers and toiletries), some with bathtubs, some with showers, and have a beauty and charm all their own. All the bathrooms are private, most of them have their own bathroom (although the old houses in the Transylvanian villages were designed without bathrooms).
Important:
Our remote village has little infrastructure, therefore we cannot (and do not want to) claim technical perfection. There may be occasional power outages; however, these are normally brief and rarely affect the enjoyment of our guests. The village roads remain unpaved and potholed, so they can become dusty in the sun and muddy after rain. There is no denying the rustic charm and original Transylvanian character of the village, which offers an opportunity to step back in time.
